As I understand it, Russians pronounce Г as g, while Ukrainians (and southern Russians) pronounce it as h.

Do you know how to say oeil, the French word for eye? This is not the sound used in
Kyiv - you can look up the backwards N letter above -
but it might help you.
I find a good way to learn Ukrainian, specifically the letters, is to watch the war mappers saying village/city names while showing the spelling.
