I trot this out every few years, particularly during Olympics. The World Games (a name which is already used). It's Olympics, but only team games. I think that would be great. Around nine competitions, you can decide which ones. Are we doing both beach volleyball and ice hockey? Some decisions to be made. Regional tastes, as you will see.

Why rugby sevens but not rugby union?.

I forgot about lacrosse. American football is not in the Olympics. Should it be in The World Games? I respect the game, but no. Curling is in.

Some things are on the edge of the definition of team games. Two-player games are out. So no beach volleyball. Relay running is tempting as a special thing. One borderline game allowed every four years, decided by the host? (shrugs shoulders)

So

1. Basketball     2. Volleyball     3. Ice hockey     4. Curling     5. Soccer     6. Rugby (sevens)     7. Baseball     8. Cricket     9. Field hockey

Debatable ones include water polo, lacrosse and American football. Frisbee. 3 x 3 basketball, which was more fun to watch than I expected.

While in the Olympics it's a matter of which country gets the most medals, for The World Games audiences would care about, you know, the important ones. Did you know that Indonesians care about badminton?
